APPRENTICESHIP OPEN DAY discovers WORKFORCE OF THE FUTURE

Downton twins Richard and John

Downton held its second annual apprenticeship open day on Saturday 7th May.

Around 30 people visited company headquarters in Moreton Valence to learn more about apprenticeships and the career opportunities available.

Downton were joined by the Freight Transport Association, Imperial Commercial, British Army and LGS Transport Training who offered additional support and advice to the potential new recruits with a visit from Stroud MP Neil Carmichael.

An interactive truck simulation provided new means of engagement with the younger generation, using the game to host a competition testing players truck driving skills. The winner, James Trave, will take home a limited edition Downton Corgi model.

“It was an extremely successful day, we’re blown away by the standard of people who attended and have the enthusiasm for transport we desire. As a result of the day, we are now hosting two selection days with successful candidates securing a space on our prestigious apprenticeship scheme.” Ruairi Spencer, Recruitment Manager.

The LGV apprenticeship is open to candidates aged 18 – 24 with a full category B car licence and have zero penalty points. The apprenticeship runs for 12 months covering the full range of licences needed by a logistics professional. The apprentices will then take on a fully employed position on Downton’s LGV driver team, operating nationally across the UK.
