A dream come true for 81 year old Gloucester resident

81 year old Sylvia Swan, accompanied by her son David and daughter-in-law Vicky, enjoyed a whistle stop tour of the HQ at Gloucester before heading out in one of our state-of-the-art trucks.

The request to visit Downton was made by daughter-in-law Vicky Phillips who, after a discussion with Mrs Swan, realised she had a taste for transport and wanted to experience driving in a ‘big lorry’.

Gloucester born and bred, Sylvia has witnessed the phenomenal growth of the company over the years, and she would’ve been just 20 years old when the company was first founded by Conrad Michael Downton, so it was a no-brainer for daughter-in-law Vicky when it came to choosing a company to provide the ‘big lorry’.

Director Kate Downton and driver trainer Andrew Heaven were on hand to welcome the family, and after a cup of tea and a biscuit they were on their way to explore the impressive site.

After a visit to the traffic office, Mrs Swan was chauffeured in one of our trucks around the local area and treated to a vehicle demonstration by Andrew Heaven who she marked 10/10 for his driving skills. After a quick photo for the family album, the family were led around the warehouse infrastructure where Mrs Swan was in awe over the large expanse of space.

Before leaving, Mrs Swan was presented with a limited edition truck model and a complimentary mug as a memory of her visit.

“What a fantastic day! Downton have treated us so well, and as it says on their trucks – they really do deliver!” Vicky Phillips, Sylvia’s daughter-in-law.

We’re always willing to accommodate requests, so please get in touch if you, or someone you know, would like to arrange a visit.
