The government has announced plans to spend £15bn on dozens of new roads across England.
The investment – dubbed the coalition’s “road revolution” – will see up to 1,300 new miles of extra lanes added to motorways and A roads around the UK under 100 separate road improvement schemes.
As part of the plans, the A303 at Stonehenge has been earmarked for a new tunnel, to help tackle a bottleneck problem on the road. The plans are part of the chancellor’s Autumn Statement that will be delivered in full on Wednesday.
